During the weekend's playoff games, Miami Dolphins receiver Brandon Marshall got a little sentimental. He saw the connection between playoff quarterbacks and their receivers, and remembered the good old days when he was in Denver with Chicago's very own Jay Cutler.
"I miss @jaycutler6 believing in me like that," Marshall tweeted. Cutler quickly responded.
"I can get #15 out of storage! Suit you back up. RT @BMarshall19: I miss @jaycutler6 believing in me like that."
After Marshall joked about their age, Cutler said that they can run circles round the younger players. Even Broncos offensive lineman Ryan Clady joined in, joking about Marshall and Cutler's renewed friendship.
"You can join us big guy!" Cutler responded.
In the midst of watching teams who weren't the Bears play in Saturday's wild card round, watching this conversation unfold made Bears fans smile. Cutler and Marshall were a mesmerizing duo for the Broncos, both hitting career highs while playing together. Marshall had a combined 2,590 yards with Cutler as his quarterback in 2007 and 2008. Cutler threw for 4,526 yards in 2008 when he had Marshall as a target.
With the Bears desperately in need of a number one receiver, could Marshall be the man the Bears have been looking for?
No, he couldn't. Marshall is halfway through a four-year, $47.5 million contract with the Dolphins.
The Bears would have to pull off a massive trade to bring Marshall to Chicago. Unless that unlikely event happens, we just have to sit and wonder what could have been.
