A man was killed in a firework accident in Chicago Monday, authorities said. Trina Orlando reports.

A man was killed in a firework accident in Chicago Monday, authorities said.

According to police, the 53-year-old was in an accident involving fireworks just before 4 p.m. in the 3900 block of West 85th Street. Officers responding to a report of an explosion in the area discovered the man "unresponsive with a head injury," Chicago Police News Affairs said. 

He was pronounced dead at the scene. 

Further details on what exactly happened weren't immediately known, but surveillance video showed the man lighting a firework in a yard at the scene. 

The man is seen in the video walking away from the firework then returning to see why it did not go off. As he hovers over the firework, it goes off. 

It was not immediately clear what kind of firework caused the tragedy. 

Bomb and arson units were called to the scene, police said. An investigation remained ongoing Monday evening.
