The Chicago Cubs have made a big move in their personnel department, promoting Jason McLeod to Senior Vice President of Player Personnel.

McLeod, who until now had served as the team’s Senior VP of Amateur Scouting and Player Development, had been in charge of drafting and signing the building blocks for the team’s future, and under his guidance the team was able to secure players like Kris Bryant and Kyle Schwarber, as well as other players like Eloy Jiménez and Gleyber Torres.

“Jason has made immense contributions to the organization in his eight years supervising Amateur Scouting and Player Development,” Cubs President Theo Epstein said in a statement. “He helped build and grow two departments that were crucial to the Cubs’ rebuild, championship and run of sustained success.”

McLeod’s new job will focus more on players at the big league level as the team looks to add new pieces to its existing core.

“I’m excited for this new opportunity in player personnel with the Cubs, especially for the chance to be more involved with the major league team,” McLeod said. “I’m proud of the progress we have made, and I’m thankful for the contributions of this talented group.”

McLeod has been linked to several high-profile job openings, including the general manager position with the San Francisco Giants and a baseball operations job with the Minnesota Twins. He has chosen to remain in Chicago with Epstein and Cubs General Manager Jed Hoyer instead, and will now move to a new role with the organization.

There was no immediate word on who would replace McLeod in the Player Development and Amateur Scouting department. Kyle Evans is currently the Senior Director of Player Personnel, and Matt Dorey is the Director of Amateur Scouting.
