Indiana Man on Probation Escapes After Receiving Warrant for Arrest

An Indiana man who escaped from a probation office when an officer told him a warrant had been issued for his arrest remained on the loose Thursday afternoon, police said.

Dennis McCay, 36, of Merrillville, was on felony probation for neglecting a dependent when he reported to the probation office at 2900 West 93rd Ave. in Crown Point, Ind. When he arrived, an officer told McCay they revoked his probation and a warrant had been issued for his arrest, according to the Lake County sheriff's office.

McCay then fled the office, and officials found his GPS bracelet in a field in Crown Point. Lake County officials believe the bracelet was cut off.

The search for McCay is led by the Lake County sheriff's department and Crown Point police. McCay is described as 5-foot, 9-inches tall and about 150 pounds. He was wearing a blue long-sleeved shirt and blue jeans when he escaped.

Anyone with information should call the Lake County sheriff's department at (219) 755-3333.
