A former Cold War missile base in southwestern Illinois can be yours if the price is right, warheads not included.
A missile site that once guarded the St. Louis region against a possible Soviet nuclear strike goes up for public auction July 12, the Belleville News-Democrat reported.
The Nike Hercules missile base near the Monroe County village of Hecker has been shuttered since 1969. It includes an administration building and a 14-acre launch complex made up of three de-activated bunkers that once housed anti-aircraft missiles capable of firing nuclear warheads.
An opening bid is set at $70,000.
Prospective buyers can get a pre-auction look at the property June 26 and 27.
Buyafarm.com will handle the auction.
