Here's Illinois' Ranking in a New ‘Best States' Study

At least, according to a new ranking from U.S. News and World Report using data to determine the “best states” in the country.

“The Best States ranking of U.S. states draws on thousands of data points to measure how well states are performing for their citizens,” the report states.

The metrics chosen included the state’s economy, opportunity and quality of life, as well as infrastructure and public safety. Health care and education were weighted the most heavily, the report states.

Sandwiched between Nevada and Texas, Illinois fared better than 15 states.

The Land of Lincoln scored as follows:

  • Health care: 27
  • Education: 36
  • Economy: 22
  • Opportunity: 20
  • Infrastructure: 40
  • Crime & Corrections: 32
  • Fiscal Stability: 32
  • Quality of Life: 29
As for the Hoosier State? Indiana took 33rd.

Iowa came in first place, while Louisiana took last.
