Heavy Rain, Flooding Make for Messy Conditions Across Chicago Area

Heavy rain on Wednesday made for messy conditions across the Chicago area.

What’s left of a weakened Tropical Depression Alberto soaked the region, moving in during the evening commute and dumping nearly three inches of rain in some parts.

The Brer Rabbit Motel in suburban Villa Park was completely surrounded by water, with reports that firefighters went door-to-door to check on those inside.

Rush hour commuters found their cars surrounded by water as well, as torrential rain flooded multiple intersections in the northwest suburbs.

Some made the ill-advised choice of trying to drive through it - stalling out and even getting stuck in floodwaters or compromising positions.

That was the scene in Hoffman Estates, where nearly three inches of rain fell. One driver tried to avoid the water and ended up on the median instead.

In Barrington, rescue boats were called to the intersection on Northwest Highway and Exmoor Avenue when multiple cars became submerged in water.

In most places, the water did have a chance to go down overnight after the rain stopped - but it left behind a mess for some people who will likely spend Thursday cleaning up.
