Boy, 13, Faces Armed Robbery Charges

Police said same teen punched another boy in the face, robbed him of his headphones earlier this week

Charges are expected to be filed against a 13-year-old boy who police say pointed a gun at a cab driver before running off with about $200 and a cell phone.

The teen, whose name has not been publicly released, was arrested Friday, police said.

Authorities said the boy was in the cab at about 1 a.m. Wednesday near Hovland Court and Emerson Street in the northern suburb when he attacked the driver, the Chicago Tribune reported.

The young robber fled and the driver got out of the car and ran after him. But as the victim was running, he took what appeared to be a dark-colored handgun out of his waistband and pointed it at the driver, said Police Cmdr. Jay Parrott.

The driver then stopped the pursuit. He was not injured.

The same teen is suspected in another incident earlier in the week in which another teen was punched in the face and robbed of his headphones.

Police said they're pursuing aggravated assault and robbery charges.
