Boy Hospitalized After Hit-and-Run

Compact, dark-colored vehicle struck 5-year-old at Walnut and Orchard in Elgin, police say

Elgin police are asking for help in searching for the driver who struck a 5-year-old boy in Elgin and drove off on Friday night.

The boy was hospitalized after being hit at the intersection of Walnut and Orchard by what police said was a compact, dark-colored vehicle.

Neighbors said the incident is an absolute tragedy and one that seems to happen too often around the neighborhood.

"There's a lot of accidents here every year," added Darla Bean.

Neighbors say they didn't know too much about the boy because his family just moved into the area three weeks ago.

"I just think its a tragedy and it should have never happened, and who ever hit the little one should have stopped," said Christine Teafoe.

Police on Saturday did not release the name of the boy or any information about his condition.

Anyone with information about the driver should contact Elgin police at 847-289-2666.
