Husband Turns In Ice Cream Money-Grabbing Wife

Deerfield's ice cream caper comes to a close

The cold case of the ice cream thief in suburban Deerfield is closed.

Police have caught up with the woman caught on tape taking a $20 bill off the counter at a Baskin-Robbins in the northern suburb.

A 12-year-old girl left the money there while she and a friend chose their ice cream flavor, and the woman is seen on a surveillance camera picking up her own ice cream order and the twenty.  It wasn't clear from the video whether the woman's grab was intentional or unconscious, but police had asked her to come forward to clear up the matter and had heard nothing from her.

On Tuesday, the woman's husband became nervous when he saw a squad car driving near the couple's home. He panicked and turned the woman in to police.

Police say the woman admitted taking the money, but said it was just an absent-minded accident.

She won't face any charges and has agreed to pay the little girl back.

Baskin-Robbins has already offered to throw a free ice cream party for the girl and her friends.
