City Hall Pay Hikes Pad Six-Figure Salaries

Chicago Reader lists pay raises for city's managers

It's widely known that jobs are being cut at Chicago's City Hall, which means there are fewer people for department managers to manage, although not necessarily less work for them to do.

Still, the Chicago Reader's Clout Street posted an interesting list of department heads, increases to their six-figure salaries and the number of staff members they've lost to budget cuts.

Of the top 67 earners on the city's payroll this month, 12 have received promotions since last August, the Reader reports. The other 55 didn't -- but 31 of them still received 3 percent raises, which worked out to between $4,320 and $5,160 each per year.

No wonder we're paying more to park at the meters around town.
