A Friday night fire on the city's South Side killed one young boy and injured five others, including three children, who were sent to the hospital in critical condition.
Christand Densmore, 5, died as a result of a fire at 6950 S. Wabash and was pronounced dead at Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn just before 1:00 a.m. Saturday Morning, according to the Cook County Medical Examiner's Office.
Fire Media Affairs spokesman Joe Roccasalva said six people, including four children, were initially reported injured.
Reports of the blaze at a 2 1/2-story building in the Park Manor neighborhood were first received around 11:30 Friday night, police and fire officials said.
Arson was originally suspected in the fire when Fire Department investigators discovered that gasoline had been poured at the back door of the home. A police Bomb and Arson detective ruled arson out as of Sunday morning when no accelerant was found and said the fire appears to have been accidentally set.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
