The Chicago White Sox acquired reliever Alex Colome in a trade with the Seattle Mariners on Friday afternoon.

Colome, who went 7-5 with a 3.04 ERA and had 72 strikeouts in 70 appearances with the Tampa Bay Rays and Mariners last season, could fill a number of roles for the White Sox, who are looking to shore up their bullpen after trading away several pieces last year.

“We view Alex as a terrific addition to our bullpen given his experience in a number of relief roles, including closing very successfully for Tampa Bay in 2016-18 before moving into a setup role with the Mariners,” White Sox G.M. Rick Hahn said in a statement. “Alex is going to be a very important bullpen piece for Ricky Renteria and our team over the next couple of years.”

In exchange, the White Sox will send catcher Omar Narvaez to the Mariners.

Narvaez batted .275 with nine home runs and 30 RBI for the White Sox last season. His departure could mean the team will have to make a move at the catcher position, as Kevan Smith is now with the Los Angeles Angels.
