3 Dead, At Least 11 Wounded in Weekend Shootings Across Chicago

Three people are dead and at least 11 others have been wounded in shootings across the city of Chicago this weekend.

The weekend’s first fatal shooting occurred just after 1 a.m. Saturday in the 3000 block of West 64th Street, according to police. A 30-year-old man was in the area when another man walked up to him and opened fire, striking him several times, according to police.

The gunman was described as a man with slender build and wearing a red shirt, according to an eyewitness. The man fled southbound on Whipple.

The victim was pronounced dead at the scene, and police are still searching for a suspect.

Just over an hour later, another fatal shooting occurred in the 5900 block of South Aberdeen, police said. Officers responding to a Shotspotter Alert found a 32-year-old man lying on the sidewalk with a gunshot wound to his head.

The man was taken to the University of Chicago Medical Center, where he was later pronounced dead. No other information was available, and no suspect was in custody.

At approximately 3:30 p.m. Saturday, another fatal shooting occurred, this one inside of an apartment in the 6200 block of North Ridge, police said. Police responded to the scene after they say a gunman, whom the victims knew, opened fire, striking both of them.

A 49-year-old woman was shot twice in the chest, and she was pronounced dead at the scene. A 28-year-old man was shot in the elbow, and he’s listed in stable condition at St. Francis Hospital.

Friday –

  • A 9-year-old boy was riding in a car with two other people when a man wearing all black ran up to the vehicle and opened fire, striking him in the elbow, according to police. The 21-year-old man driving the car sped away from the scene and called EMS after fleeing to safety. The boy was taken to Comer Children’s Hospital, where he’s listed in stable condition.

Saturday –

  • Just before 2 a.m. in the 6100 block of South Hermitage, a 40-year-old man said that several armed men walked up to him, announced a robbery, stole his wallet, and then opened fire, striking him in the torso. He was taken to the University of Chicago Medical Center in serious condition, according to police.
  • A 22-year-old man was walking in the 1100 block of South Richmond when a man walked up to him and opened fire, striking him in the leg. Police say the man was taken to Mount Sinai, where he’s in stable condition.
  • In the 3200 block of West Madison at approximately 5 p.m., a 23-year-old man was in a vehicle when a person in another car opened fire, striking him in the abdomen. The man was taken to Stroger Hospital, where he was listed in good condition, according to police.
  • At approximately 8:49 p.m. in the 5100 block of West Henderson, a 24-year-old man was inside of an apartment playing cards when a man’s gun accidentally went off, striking him in the leg. Police say the man is in good condition, but refused to provide further information about the incident.
  • A 38-year-old man was walking to a waiting car in the 13300 block of South Indiana at approximately 11 p.m. when a person got out of a nearby Chevy Impala, grabbed a gun out of the trunk, and shot him three times, police said. The gunman then fled the scene with a group of four other individuals. The victim was later taken to the University of Chicago Medical Center, where he is in critical condition.

Sunday - 

  • In the 11400 block of South Davol at approximately 3:45 a.m., two people were sitting in a car when a person inside a passing vehicle opened fire. Police said both of the victims, a 20-year-old man and a 17-year-old girl, were hit in the leg, and both were taken to Christ Hospital in stable condition.
  • At approximately 5:25 a.m. in the 7200 block of South Chappel, a 48-year-old man was getting out of his car when he was shot in the back. He was taken to the University of Chicago Medical Center in stable condition, according to police.
  • A 20-year-old man was involved in a physical altercation in the first block of West Chicago when a person pulled out a gun and opened fire, striking the victim in the finger. The man was taken to Northwestern Hospital in good condition, and the alleged gunman is in custody.
  • In the 7000 block of South Justine at approximately 12:50 p.m., a 20-year-old man was shot in the chest. He is in critical condition at the University of Chicago Medical Center, according to police.
