Two people are dead and at least 22 others have been wounded in shootings across the city of Chicago in a violent start to the weekend.
The city’s first fatal shooting of the weekend occurred in the 200 block of West 105th Place at approximately 7:20 p.m. Friday night, according to police.
Authorities say a 21-year-old man was sitting inside a car when a person in a silver colored vehicle fired shots at him, striking him multiple times.
The victim was taken to Roseland Hospital, where he was pronounced dead, police said. No suspect is in custody, and Area South Detectives are investigating.
Just before midnight, a 23-year-old man was sitting in a car when he got into a verbal altercation with a group of people standing across the street in the 6200 block of South Laflin, police said.
One of the men opened fire, striking the victim in the chest. The man ran to the corner of 62nd and Lafflin, where he collapsed. He was pronounced dead at the University of Chicago Medical Center a short time later.
Area South Detectives are investigating.

Friday -
- In the 700 block of North Lorel at approximately 5:07 p.m., a 51-year-old man was involved in a verbal altercation with another man. When the victim got into a car to drive away, the other man pulled out a gun and shot him in the left foot, according to police. The man was taken to Stroger Hospital, where he’s listed in stable condition.
- A 21-year-old man was walking in the 5200 block of South Maplewood at approximately 6 p.m. when a dark colored vehicle drove past, and a person inside opened fire. The man was taken to Mount Sinai with a gunshot wound to his lower left leg, and he’s listed in good condition, police said.
- At approximately 6:18 p.m. in the 7200 block of South East End, a 27-year-old man was in a yard when he got into a verbal altercation with an unidentified woman, police said. The woman then pulled out a gun and shot the man in the left hip and right torso, and he was taken to the University of Chicago in stable condition.
- In the 5000 block of West Wrightwood at approximately 8:34 p.m., a man was standing on a corner when another man fired shots at him, striking him in the chest. The man was listed in stable condition, but provided no other information to police when they interviewed him at a local hospital.
- A 14-year-old girl was standing on a sidewalk in the 3700 block of West Douglas when a person inside a dark-colored vehicle opened fire, striking her in the foot and arm. She was taken to Stroger Hospital, where she’s listed in stable condition.
Saturday –
- At approximately 12:21 a.m. in the 6100 block of South Vernon, a 39-year-old man was walking when he heard shots and felt pain in his left leg, police said. The man walked into the University of Chicago Medical Center, where he’s listed in good condition.
- In the 300 block of North Hamlin at approximately 12:28 a.m., a 39-year-old woman was driving when she heard shots and was shot in the leg, police said. The woman was taken to Mount Sinai, where she’s listed in good condition.
- A 24-year-old man was outside with a group of people when an unknown person opened fire, striking him in the chest, witnesses told police. The man was taken to the University of Chicago, where he’s listed in critical condition.
- At approximately 1:34 a.m. in the 1100 block of North Lorel, two people were shot early Saturday morning, police said. Two men were walking when shots were fired. A 20-year-old man was shot in the right knee, left thigh, left hip, and lower leg, and was listed in stable condition. A 21-year-old man was shot in the back, and was listed in stable condition at West Suburban Hospital.
- In the 3100 block of South Erickson Drive at approximately 3:14 a.m., a 29-year-old woman was walking when she saw two men engaged in a verbal altercation. One of the men pulled out a gun and opened fire, striking her in the abdomen. Both men fled the scene on foot, and the woman was taken to the University of Chicago ins table condition, police said.
- A total of seven people were shot in the 0-100 block of West Fullerton at approximately 3:20 a.m., police said. Authorities say that two groups of people became involved in a verbal altercation, and individuals in both groups pulled out guns and started shooting, leaving seven people hurt. Two of the victims, a 24-year-old woman and a 46-year-old woman, are both in serious condition, while the other five victims are in good condition.
- Just before 6 a.m. in the 2700 block of West Division, a 36-year-old man walked into Saint Mary’s Hospital after he suffered a gunshot wound to his thigh, police said. The man was treated and released from the hospital.
- In the 5100 block of North Broadway at approximately 3:40 a.m., a 27-year-old man was shot, police said. The man walked into Northwestern Hospital with a gunshot wound to his right arm after he was engaged in a verbal altercation with a group of people. He is in stable condition.
- A 30-year-old man got into a verbal altercation with another man in the 3300 block of West Madison at approximately 6:30 a.m., and when the argument became physical, the victim tried to leave the scene in a car. The other man then opened fire, striking the victim as he sat in the car. He was taken to Cook County Hospital, where he's listed in good condition.
- Just before 2 p.m. in the 7200 block of South Paulina, an 11-year-old boy was walking toward a car parked on the street when two men walked up to him, pulled out guns, and opened fire, police said. The boy suffered a graze wound to his left thigh, and is in good condition at Holy Cross Hospital.
