Labor Day weekend kicked off with a stormy start on Saturday, and a second round of showers and thunderstorms could make its way through the Chicago area in the evening.
The first round of active weather occurred in the morning, as multiple lines of storms impacted northeastern Illinois. Heavy rains were expected to take place, with some areas seeing up to an inch of rain or more.
A Flood Watch has been issued in Cook, DuPage, Kane, Lake and McHenry counties and will be in effect from 7 p.m. Saturday until 8 a.m. Sunday.
After a brief respite during the day, more showers and storms are expected to develop in the evening hours over the same area, with more rain and lightning expected.
Although the weather is likely to be more widespread, rain could continue to threaten the Chicagoland through Monday.
Temperatures will remain in the lower 80’s on Saturday, but will climb up to near 90 degrees on Sunday and Monday.
