2 Dead, at Least 5 Wounded in Sunday Shootings

Two people are dead and at least five other people have been wounded in shootings across the city of Chicago on Sunday.

On Sunday night, two men were shot in the 4900 block of West Adams, according to police. The victims were standing on a sidewalk at approximately 8:21 p.m. when three men got out of a black SUV and fired shots at them. 

One of the men, a 21-year-old man, was shot in the head and was pronounced dead at Stroger, police said. A 20-year-old man was shot in the right leg, and was in stable condition at Stroger, according to auhtorities. 

No suspect is in custody, and police are still investigating. 

The city’s first fatal shooting occurred in an attempted carjacking in the city’s West Humboldt Park neighborhood on Sunday morning, police said.

The incident occurred just after 7 a.m. in the 900 block of North Kedvale, police said. An unknown man approached a vehicle with three occupants and displayed a gun in an attempt to take the car.

A 71-year-old man, who was driving, drove away, and the gunman opened fire, striking a 59-year-old woman in the back of the head. She was taken to Stroger Hospital, where she was later pronounced dead.

The man was described as African-American with thin build, wearing a red hoodie, and standing approximately 5-foot-4.  Area North Detectives are investigating.

Around 12:30 a.m. in the 13200 block of South Corliss, a 48-year-old man was standing in the backyard when two men walked up and opened fire. The man was struck in the chest by a gunshot, and was taken to Christ Hospital in serious condition, police said.

Here are the rest of the shootings from Sunday:

  • A 16-year-old boy was in the 1100 block of South Richmond at approximately 5 a.m. when he was shot in the back, police said. The boy was taken to Mount Sinai in good condition.
  • A 44-year-old man was standing next to his car in the 11600 block of South Morgan at approximately 1:27 a.m. when he was shot in the foot, police said. The man did not see where the shots came from. He was taken to Christ Hospital in good condition.
  • A 65-year-old woman suffered a graze wound when she was shot in Morgan Park, police said. The woman was in the 11100 block of South Halsted just before 6 p.m. when her arm was grazed by a bullet. She is in good condition at Christ Hospital, and other details in the shooting are unknown.
