One man was killed and three others wounded Wednesday afternoon in a spray of gunfire in the Humboldt Park neighborhood on Chicago's West Side.
Tyris Ferguson, 23, died at Mt. Sinai Hospital just before 1 p.m. after being shot multiple times while riding in a car on the 3500 block of West Chicago Avenue, near North St. Louis Avenue.
He and two other men were in a Pontiac Grand Prix when officials said someone fired shots from a passing van. All three men were hit by bullets. Ferguson, family members said, was hit 16 times.

"He was a nice guy. He was real chill [and] laid back. He didn't come out much at all," Ferguson's girlfriend, Sylvanna James, told NBC Chicago. "He was just in the wrong place at the wrong time."
A 26-year-old who wasn’t in the vehicle was also shot. Police said this man may have been a pedestrian, but a fire department spokesman said he was found inside a home.
The other two men from the vehicle were taken in critical condition to John H. Stroger, Jr. Hospital of Cook County. A 24-year-old was shot multiple times on his body, while a 31-year-old was shot in his arms and legs, police said.
The 26-year-old had a gunshot wound to his lower leg and was taken to Northwestern Memorial Hospital, where his condition was stabilized.
Ferguson's mother said the area has been plagued by gang violence and said she wished police would do a better job patrolling the area.
