Chicago Ranks Among Top American Cities for Music Lovers

Chicago ranked at no. 11 on the top 15 list

When it comes to its standing among the best cities for music lovers, the Windy City certainly doesn't fall flat.

Conde Nast Traveler ranked Chicago at no. 11 in its recent list of top 15 American Cities for Music Lovers.

The ranking called the city a “hotbed of creativity for blues musicians” and noted it is known for its house music and alt-rock scene.

Notable local musicians include blues legend Buddy Guy, “godfather of house music” Frankie Knuckles, and alt-rock artists, including musicians from Wilco and the Smashing Pumpkins.

The rankings also suggest checking out Wicker Park record store Dusty Groove or music venues like the Hideout or the Empty Bottle, the Symphony Center to see the Chicago Symphony Orchestra live and the Rock & Roll McDonald’s.

Still need more reasons? Chicago has grown into a music festival destination with Pitchfork Music Festival, Lollapalooza, North Coast Music Festival and Riot Fest. This year’s Pitchfork Music Festival features Chicago native headliners Wilco and Chance the Rapper.

Other cities ranked in the list include San Francisco at no. 8, Los Angeles at no. 3, New York City at no. 2 and Washington, D.C., taking first place.
