A massive public art project launched Saturday night along the Chicago River.
The 'Art on theMart' project is said to be the first-of-its-kind—a curated digital art installation projected across 2.5 acres (or about two football fields) of the Mart's river façade.
“Art on theMART is a visionary project that brings Chicago’s legacy of public art and iconic architecture into the future,” said Mayor Rahm Emanuel.
According to Emanuel, “more than 32,000 people witnessed history…as one of Chicago’s most prominent buildings lit up.”

Chicago is now home to the longest-running and largest permanent digital art projection in the world, stated Emanuel.
Officials had momentarily closed part of Wacker Drive, from Wells to Franklin Street for the project’s inauguration.

The artwork will be up on display for the duration of ten months of the year (March—December), beginning at dusk every Wednesday through Sunday.
