Chatwood missed his last start after his wife gave birth

Chicago Cubs starter Tyler Chatwood is back with the team after being activatged from the paternity list on Thursday.

Chatwood, who missed his last start after his wife gave birth to the couple’s child, will return to the mix on Saturday when the Cubs take on the Minnesota Twins at Wrigley Field.

To make room for Chatwood on the roster, the Cubs optioned pitcher Dillon Maples back to Triple-A Iowa. Maples pitched on Wednesday night against the Los Angeles Dodgers, throwing two scoreless innings and striking out three batters.

Originally the Cubs had hoped that Yu Darvish would make the Saturday start in the Twins series, but after his bullpen session on Thursday afternoon, it was determined that Chatwood would make the start instead.
