Celebrations are well underway around Chicago Tuesday as people in the city and suburbs commemorate Independence Day.
Thousands flocked to Navy Pier to catch the fireworks show beginning at 9:30 p.m. The annual celebration is one of the Chicago area’s most well-attended Fourth of July attractions.
Navy Pier closed its doors shortly after 8:30 p.m. after reaching its capacity of roughly 100,000 people, a spokesman for the popular tourist destination confirmed.

Navy Pier's on-site parking garages filled up Tuesday around 3:15 p.m., according to a statement from the venue.
Visitors can park at garages located at 540 N. State St., 300 E. North Water St. or S. Columbus St. at a discounted rate of $15 with validation from Navy Pier's information booth, the statement said.
