The phrase “what do you get for the (insert team name here) fan who has everything” is one of the most clichéd in the sports world, but it is actually the perfect choice of words for the latest piece of memorabilia offered by the Chicago Blackhawks.
That’s because the team is actually selling small vials containing pieces of the ice used at the United Center during the team’s 2013 Stanley Cup championship run:
“At the end of the season, the crew at the United Center goes about their job of melting and removing the home ice from the floor.
“It’s a moment that passes with little fanfare or recognition. All the amazing moments that took place on that ice literally go down the drain. This year, we decided to do something different. We were on-hand for the ice removal to document the occasion and save a few precious pieces of that magical home ice.”
