Blackhawks Make History With Blowout Win Over Penguins

The Chicago Blackhawks were looking to make a statement against the Pittsburgh Penguins on Thursday night, and that’s exactly what they did as they put up an incredible 10 goals in a 10-1 victory.

The victory was not only a big one for the Blackhawks against the defending Stanley Cup champions, but it also was an historic victory.

The 10 goals the Blackhawks scored in the game are the most the team has ever scored in their opening contest of the season. The number eclipses the eight goals that the Blackhawks scored against the Nashville Predators back on Oct. 5, 2006 in an 8-6 slugfest.

Hopefully the current season ends better than that campaign did, as the Blackhawks ultimately missed the playoffs and landed the number one overall pick in the NHL Draft, which they used to take Patrick Kane.

Speaking of Kane, he registered a goal and racked up four assists as the Blackhawks cruised to victory.

The Blackhawks’ last 10-goal game was all the way back in 1988, when they throttled the Winnipeg Jets in a game at the old Chicago Stadium. Rich Vaive had a hat trick, and Darren Pang stopped 35 shots as the Blackhawks notched a 10-1 victory in that game.
