The Chicago area has begun to clean up after another round of summer storms rolled through Tuesday night.
Kane, Kendall and LaSalle counties remained under a Flood Warning Wednesday morning, while Will County was under a Flood Advisory, according to the National Weather Service. Much of the region was under Severe Thunderstorm Warnings Tuesday evening, bringing heavy rainfall, high winds and even hail in some parts, before tapering off overnight.
The western suburbs saw the most significant amount of rainfall, according to the NWS, with places like Aurora, Westmont and Naperville seeing around 2 inches of rain reported overnight.
Several areas saw damage, including downed trees and power lines in places like Kankakee, Barrington, Machesney Park and more. The NWS said in west suburban Wheaton, a tree measuring 5 feet in diameter was uprooted, and trees fell on houses in the area of Roosevelt Road and County Farm Road.
In LaGrange Park, the NWS reported two inches of rain causing streets to flood and roads to be blocked by roughly a foot of standing water. In Chicago's Garfield Park and North Lawndale neighborhoods, several viaducts were "completely submerged and impassable," officials said.
And the summer storms aren't finished with us yet. Wednesday looks to be mostly cloudy and warm with highs in the mid to upper 80s and humid with periodic scattered showers and storms in the afternoon and evening. A few strong storms with heavy rain will be possible once again, particularly in areas south and west.
The Fourth of July itself will also likely see periods of showers and storms throughout the day, and remain warm and humid with highs between 85 and 90 degrees.
