Girl, 14, Shot on West Side

A 14-year-old girl was shot in the back while caught in an argument between two groups on a West Side Austin neighborhood sidewalk early Saturday.

The shooting happened shortly before 3 a.m. on the 5100 block of West Crystal Street, police said.

The girl was standing with a group of people when an argument broke out between two groups of people, police said.

One person then took out a handgun and fired, striking the girl in the back.  She was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital and listed in stable condition, officials said.

It was unclear whether the teen was the intended target or was caught in the gunfire, police said Saturday morning.

A description of the shooter was not clear.  Police have no one in custody.
