Actual Ravens Delivering Chicagoans Invites to See ‘GoT' Author George R.R. Martin

The Chicago Humanities Festival announced that Martin would the keynote speaker for its October event

If you get a letter sent to you via a raven in Chicago, it’s not junk mail.

It’s probably an invite to see “Game of Thrones” creator George R. R. Martin next month.

The Chicago Humanities Festival announced that Martin will be the keynote speaker for its October event.

In celebration of the news, the CHF plans to send a limited number of invites printed on parchment scrolls to fans’ high-rise apartments or homes. The invites will be dropped off by ravens in an ode to the iconic books Martin created.

“Don’t be alarmed if you see ravens landing at high-rise apartments, flying above Michigan Ave or past other notable Chicago locations,” the CHF said in a statement.

Martin also tweeted the news saying “we’re sending invitations in true GoT style: by raven,” he wrote. “Next week, be sure to look. You may just see some feathered friends delivering scrolls all over town.”

It’s unclear how many such invites will be sent out for the event or when exactly the scrolls will be “out for delivery.”

Other speakers at the fall festival include Rachel Maddow, Jodi Kantor and Megan Twohey.

Martin is slated to speak on Oct. 11 at the Chicago Symphony Orchestra. Tickets go on sale Oct. 1.

The popular HBO series ‘Game of Thrones’ has captured audiences around the world. Its author George R.R. Martin spent time living in Chicago and now his former home is up for sale. NBC 5’s Sabrina Santucci has the details.
