A Shetland pony was put down after being hit Sunday by an all-terrain vehicle allegedly driven by a man under the influence.
Quintin P. Wissmiller, 33, struck the animal while heading south on Brisbin Road in an all-terrain vehicle, according to Kendall County Sheriff's Deputies.
Wissmiller suffered head injuries and was taken to the Morris Hospital emergency room where he was later released.
The 13-year-old pony, named Dory, had gotten loose from a farm a couple miles away, said sheriff's Deputy Craig French. She was taken to a veterinary hospital and was euthanized because of back injuries.
Wissmiller was also ticketed for driving with a revoked license, police said.
