Two Officers Injured in On-Duty Crash

Two on-duty police officers were injured Saturday night in a car accident in a South Side neighborhood.

The two officers were on duty in an unmarked, dark-colored SUV near the intersection of 76thStreet and Western Avenue when a red Jaguar smashed into their car at around 8:40 p.m., police said.

The officers were taken to Advocate Christ Medical Center with serious, but non-life threatening injuries, according to officials.

The driver, Christopher Slotwinski was reportedly cited for reckless driving, driving without insurance, driving too fast for conditions, driving on a suspended license, and a misdemeanor DUI charge, the Chicago Tribune reported.

The driver was also reportedly transported to Advocate Christ Medical Center.

Multiple officers remained on the scene and Western Avenue was shut down between 74th and 77th Streets but has since been re-opened.
