Suburban Woman Who Fired at Officers Ordered Held on $2.5 Million

Tamekka Broyles of Schaumburg was wounded by police during the altercation last Saturday

A judge has set bond at $2.5 million for a woman from suburban Schaumburg accused of attempted murder for firing shots last week at two police officers.

Tamekka Broyles of Schaumburg was wounded by police during the altercation last Saturday.

The Chicago Tribune reports court records indicate the 31-year-old Broyles was upset after receiving a text message from her wife saying she wanted to end their relationship.

Cook County Assistant State's Attorney Maria McCarthy said Friday that Broyles called police, indicating she had a gun and was going to kill herself. McCarthy said police found Broyles at home with a gun to a chin. After refusing orders to drop her weapon, she pointed it at officers, resulting in gun fire.

McCarthy asked that Broyles be held without bond. However, a public defender argued Broyles had no history of violence.
