Riverside Crossing Guard Struck in Hit-and-Run

Police ask for public's help

Riverside police are asking for the public's help in finding a hit-and-run driver who struck a crossing guard after school Thursday.

The crossing guard was helping two kids across the street at Longcommon and Nuttall roads just before 4 p.m. when a car hit him from behind.

Police say the driver stopped momentarily and exchanged a few words before taking off.

The driver is described as an elderly man with gray hair. Witnesses say he was driving a red car, possibly a Ford Focus.

The crossing guard was treated for minor injuries and released from the hospital.

The children he was helping were not harmed.
