Police Warn Northwest Side Residents After String of Burglaries

Police issued a warning to Jefferson Park residents Monday after a string of residential burglaries last month.

In the burglaries, someone invaded homes through both unlocked and locked windows and doors claiming electronics, jewelry, cash and other miscellaneous valuables, according to a community alert from Chicago Police.

"[We've] been living here for 27 years, [there] had to be someone watching," Stephanie Snopkowski said of her mother's home that had been raided of nearly $10,000 worth of jewelry.

"Jewelry can be replaced," Snopkowski said, who's 10-year-old family pet had been found locked in an upstairs bedroom after intruders pried open a backdoor.

The burglaries occurred:

-- Around 8 a.m. on Nov. 12 in the 5600 block of West Eddy

-- Around 6 p.m. on Nov. 15 in the 3400 block of North Long

-- Around 6 p.m. on Nov. 19 in the 6100 block of West Addison

-- Around 6:45 a.m. on Nov. 24 in the 5700 block of West Addison

-- Sometime between 10 a.m. 5 p.m. on Nov. 28 in the 6000 block of West Melrose

Authorities told homeowners to lock all of their doors and windows and provide a detailed report of any suspicious people loitering in the area.
