Police: Man Tried Dragging Girl, 12, Into Wooded Area

Cook County Sheriffs ask for public's help to find the man

The Cook County Sheriff's Department was asking for the public's help Thursday to identify a man who tried abducting a 12-year-old girl near Des Plaines.

Police in a statement said the man grabbed the girl Wednesday in Maine Township, covered her mouth with his hands and tried dragging her into a wooded area. The girl fought back, police said, by biting the man's hand and running away.

Police searched the area south of the 9600 block of Golf Road and found white headphones the man reportedly was wearing but continue searching for him.

He is described as white man between 20 and 30 years old, standing about 5-foot-8 and 5-foot-10 and weighing about 170 to 190 pounds. He wore an orange-and-brown hooded sweatshirt and black-and-white pants.

Anyone with information is asked to call Cook County Sheriff’s Police at 708-865-4896.
