Woman's body found Thursday morning about 100 yards from shore

Police have identified the woman whose body was recovered Thursday from Lake Michigan near north suburban Lake Forest.

Rebecca Long, 32, of Lake Forest was found about 100 yards from shore around 11 a.m. Long was wearing orange running sunglasses, black running pants, a black T-shirt, running shoes and a black fleece jacket, police said.

Further details about the woman were not released.

The Coast Guard and fire departments from more than 20 towns responded Thursday morning to a report of a female in the water in the 500 block of Forest Park Drive. Lake Forest Deputy Chief Karl Walldorf said there were multiple calls about a swimmer in distress sometime after 8 a.m.

At one time as many as six boats and a number of divers and specialists from more than 25 fire and rescue operations were in and around the water searching for the person. Two coast guard rescue helicopters coordinated the search from the air.

Lake Forest Police said Friday detectives continue to investigate the incident and ask anyone who was at Forest Park Beach Thursday morning and may have seen the victim to call 847-234-2601.
