Northlake Teen Fatally Shot While Watching TV: Cops

The shooting likely was gang retaliation, police said

A Northlake teen was killed in his home early Tuesday by bullets shot through the living-room window, police said.

James Romero, 18, was watching TV at his home on the 200 block of South 45th Avenue just after midnight when the bullets struck him in the arm and chest, police said.

Northlake officials told the Chicago Sun-Times the shooting likely was a result of gang retaliation.

A call came through to 911 just after midnight, reporting gun shots fired and someone down, Northlake police said. Neighbors ran outside responding to the shots and saw a car speeding away with another in pursuit, police told the Sun-Times.

According to the Cook County Medical Examiner’s Office, Romero was pronounced dead at 1:20 a.m. at Gottlieb Memorial Hospital in Melrose Park.

Police are following up on leads, but no one was in custody, the Sun-Times reported.
