The National Weather Service confirmed a tornado touched down in Lake Geneva in southeastern Wisconsin during Tuesday night's storms across the area.

The tornado, which was spotted in Lake Geneva around 9 p.m., was categorized as an EF-1, according to the National Weather Service.

Severe weather tore across much of northern and central Illinois and southern Wisconsin Tuesday night, causing damage and power outages.

Another tornado was spotted in Livingston County in central Illinois just after 5 p.m. Witnesses reported a funnel cloud near Pontiac that was moving northeast at 20 mph.

In the Chicago area, Cook, DuPage, Will and Lake counties were hit hard with heavy downpours as a Flash Flood Warning was issued. Up to 3 inches of rain fell in less than one hour in some areas, according to the National Weather Service.

Strong winds during the storm blew in excess of 60 mph with rapid lightning and some light hail. The lightning, while scattered, was evident, and as threatening as the thunder that came with it. A fire was sparked in the attic of a home in suburban Darien after the house was struck by lightning.

Just before 9:30 p.m., ComEd reported nearly 14,000 customers with outages across Cook and DuPage counties due to the storms.
