A man was stabbed to death Monday night in northwest suburban Palatine in a fight over $40.
Police say officers responding to a 911 call found 22-year-old Eduardo Guillen-Tellez bleeding on the ground around 8:05 p.m. outside his home in the 1300 block of North Ports O’Call.
Paramedics took Guillen-Tellez to Northwest Community Healthcare in Arlington Heights, but doctors weren't able to save him.
Police had a suspect in custody Tuesday morning but have not filed any charges.
Investigators learned through witnesses that several people approached the 29-year-old suspect and "a verbal altercation eventually turned physical," police said in a statement.
Police said the fight apparently started over $40 owed to Guillen-Tellez over a broken TV he purchased from suspect.
Several additional witnesses are being interviewed as Palatine police continue to investigate.
