A man grabbed a Chicago Transit Authority bus driver and demanded sex as she drove on Chicago’s South Side during rush hour, according to police. When the driver fled her seat during the encounter, police said the man tried to drive the bus away, but couldn’t operate it.

The incident started around 6 a.m. in the 8600 block of South Damen Avenue, according to authorities.

The bus was on its route in the area when the man began smoking a cigarette on the bus, police said. A passenger complained to the driver and the man walked up, grabbed the driver's breasts and demanded sex, authorities said.

The driver fled the bus and the man tried to drive it away. When he realized he couldn’t operate the bus, he then fled the scene on foot, police said.

Officers were called to the scene and ultimately took the man into custody, police said. Charges were pending as of Wednesday morning.
