The fire specialist Smokey the Dog is preparing for her on-screen debut.
The Jackonsville, Ill. pup will appear on Tuesday night’s episode of NBC’s “Chicago Fire” after winning a “Top Dog” competition on the “Today” show in October.
Smokey won the competition’s top prize, which included a brief spot on the show and a visit to the “Chicago Fire” set.
She was given “star treatment” as she was taken to the set in limousine and given a winner’s basket, recognition plaque and a director’s chair with her name on it, according to TODAY.com.
Smokey works to train Jacksonville children to "stop, drop and roll" — primarily Kindergarteners through 3rd-graders.
Firefighters rescued Smokey as a puppy from a 2009 house fire. Now she lives in a substation.
Gov. Pat Quinn declared Oct. 13 “Smokey the Dog Day.”
"Chicago Fire" airs at 9 p.m. CT Tuesdays on NBC.
