Gold Coast Woman Accused of Stealing $80K from Nonprofit for Shopping, Plastic Surgery

Prosecutors say Spicer swiped her corporate card more than 650 times on personal goods such as groceries, gym memberships and dining out

A 40-year-old Gold Coast woman was charged with felony theft Tuesday for allegedly stealing more than $82,000 from the nonprofit she worked for to spend on plastic surgery, clothing and lavish vacations, the Chicago Tribune reported.

Amy Spicer, 40, embezzled the funds over the course of five years from the Center for New Community, where she served as director of operations and human resources overseeing company credit cards and medical flexible-spending accounts for employees, according to the publication.

The Center for New Community’s website states the Chicago-based organization works to counter social, economic and racial injustices.

In a report released to the Tribune, prosecutors allege Spicer’s purchases include more than $10,000 spent at Mid-North Animal Hospital, $9,000 in airfare to luxury destinations such as Barcelona and Las Vegas, $806 in apparel at Victoria’s Secret and $1,250 at Gold Coast Plastic Surgery, all on the company’s dime.

Spicer swiped her corporate card more than 650 times on personal goods such as groceries, gym memberships and dining out, the publication reported.

Court records show Spicer, who allegedly admitted to the misuse of funding upon her dismissal from the Center for New Community, is due in court on Dec. 23.
