No Injuries in Hancock Center Fire

A fire department spokesman said the fire was contained to one room in the building's residential area and was out just before 11 p.m.

No injuries were reported after a late Thursday night fire on an upper floor of Chicago's John Hancock Center, officials said.

Crews were called to Chicago's fourth-tallest building, at 875 N. Michigan Ave., shortly after 10 p.m. after receiving a call about a fire on the 87th floor. Residents of the building told NBC Chicago they could smell smoke in the building and alerted the Chicago Fire Department.

A fire department spokesman said the fire was contained to one room in the building's residential area and was out just before 11 p.m.

No one was injured. Some residents went down to the lobby after a loudspeaker announcement, but everyone was allowed back into their apartments by midnight.

The cause of the fire remained under investigation as of 5:30 a.m.

The John Hancock Center has 100 floors and was completed in 1970.
