Peoria Caterpillar Building Placed on Lockdown After ‘Credible Workplace Violence Threat'

A Caterpillar building in downtown Peoria was placed on lockdown Friday after officials were made aware of a "credible workplace violence threat."

The company said the lockdown was implemented "out of an abundance of caution" and law enforcement officers were at the scene.

Shortly before 3:30 p.m., the lockdown was lifted and the building was resuming normal operations.

"We continue to engage with law enforcement, and based on new information, Caterpillar is lifting the lockdown that was placed on all Peoria-area Caterpillar facilities," the company said in a statement. "We are resuming to normal operations at this time. We will continue to monitor the situation and, should we need to communicate further, we will provide an updates needed."

Details on the threat weren't immediately known.
