Carnival Worker Charged with Sexual Assault of Toddler

A 3-year-old child who was afraid to go down a slide at a carnival “fun house” in Schaumburg over the weekend was allegedly sexually assaulted by a carnival employee who went into the fun house after the child.

Police believe the carnival worker may have committed similar offenses against children at other carnivals in the area.

The carnival worker, Adam J. Moyers, 19, of Franklin Park, was charged Thursday with two counts of predatory criminal sexual assault, a Class X felony, according to the Schaumburg Police Department.

On Sunday, the child and an older sibling entered the “fun house” at the carnival at the village’s Septemberfest, the release said. The sibling went down a slide, but the younger child was scared to follow. The sibling notified their father, who attempted to enter the fun house to help the child.

Moyers, who was the carnival employee monitoring the fun house, stopped the father from entering, police said. He had all the other patrons of the carnival remain outside as he entered the fun house to tend to the girl. He then committed the act while alone in the fun house with the child, police said.

The next day, the child told the parents of the inappropriate physical contact that occurred in the fun house, police said. The parents reported the incident to Schaumburg police. Moyers was taken into custody Thursday and he was positively identified by the child’s family.

Moyers was taken to the Rolling Meadows courthouse Friday morning for a bond hearing.

Moyers is employed by Fantasy Amusement Company, the release said. Schaumburg detectives have reason to believe that Moyer has committed similar offenses involving children at other carnivals throughout the Chicago area. Anybody who believes their child may have been a victim is urged to contact the police department within the community where the carnival was held.

Schaumburg police are asking that if any parents believe their children had inappropriate contact with Moyers over the Labor Day weekend in Schaumburg, they are urged to contact the Schaumburg Police Department Investigations Division at (847) 882-3534.
