Body Found in Northbrook is Missing Glencoe Man

The body was found about 10 a.m. Saturday on Illinois Tollway property

A man found dead near the Edens Expressway in north suburban Northbrook Saturday morning is Harvey Caplin, an elderly Glencoe man who has been missing since January, authorities confirmed early Sunday.

The body was found about 10 a.m. Saturday on Illinois Tollway property, according to a statement from Glencoe public safety officials.

The man has since been positively been identified as 82-year-old Caplin, according to the Cook County Medical Examiner’s office. An autopsy is scheduled for Sunday.

Glencoe public safety personnel and about 70 volunteers mounted a lengthy search for Caplin, who was last seen by his wife about 7:30 p.m. Jan. 21 as he walked away from his home near Dundee Road and Forestway Drive, Pioneer Press reported at the time.

Contract landscapers from a nearby Jewish community center noticed the body in the grass Saturday near the expressway while working along the fence line, said Illinois State Police Master Sgt. Ed Petrik.

The Bernard Weinger Jewish Community Center is located near the expressway in the 300 block of Revere Drive.
