Two Arrested After Mag Mile Smash-and-Grab Burglary

Van crashed into the Neiman Marcus store on the 700 block of North Michigan Avenue early Wednesday

Witnesses helped police catch a couple of thieves who smashed a minivan into the Neiman Marcus store on Michigan Avenue. Susan Carlson reports.

Two people were in custody and other suspects were being sought after an early Wednesday morning smash-and-grab style burglary on Chicago's Magnificent Mile, police said.

Authorities said several people were seen running from the Neiman Marcus store, on the 700 block of North Michigan Avenue, after a van crashed through the front window at about 4 a.m.

A number of handbags were seen scattered on the ground outside the store, but police could not immediately confirm how much, if any, merchandise was stolen.

A police department spokesperson later said two people were arrested.

A new pawn shop in the Southwest Side Chicago Lawn neighborhood was hit in a similar heist just about 24 hours earlier.
