Two people were killed and three others were critically injured in a single-vehicle crash early Sunday in the Southwest Side Brighton Park neighborhood, police said.

The silver sedan was traveling northbound in the 3800 block of South Western Avenue when the driver lost control and struck a viaduct support beam at 3:15 a.m., police News Affairs Officer Hector Alfaro said.

The driver of the sedan, a 27-year-old woman, was taken to Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn where she was pronounced dead, Alfaro said. A 33-year-old man was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital, where he was pronounced dead. The Cook County Medical Examiner’s office could not immediately confirm the fatalities.

Three other passengers from the vehicle — two 34-year-old women and a 31-year-old man — were all taken to John H. Stroger Jr. Hospital of Cook County in critical condition, Alfaro said.

The police Major Accidents Investigation Unit is investigating.
