A construction worker was rescued from a garage that collapsed Friday afternoon in Chicago's Lake View neighborhood, video from Sky 5 showed.
The incident was reported before 4:30 p.m. in the 3200 block of North Wilton, according to the Chicago Fire Department.
Neighbors who were in the area at the time told NBC 5 they heard a large boom, followed by a cloud of dust and screaming.
"We saw this poor man in the hole covered up to here with debris, and he was screaming, and I don’t mean like, like he was in terrible pain," said Ellen Hughes, owner of the garage.
Footage from the scene showed dozens of firefighters working fast, clearing heavy bricks and debris in order to free the man's legs and load him onto a board.
"One of the construction digger guys was way down in the ground," Hughes recounted. "They were digging right against our garage and it’s not a brand new garage."

The victim was pulled from the rubble and rushed to Advocate Illinois Masonic Medical Center in serious-to-critical condition. The condition of the worker, whose name was not released, was improving Friday evening, fire officials said.
While Hughes said her car was totaled and garage nearly caved in, she's just thankful no one else was hurt.
"Here are all these guys trying to save their friend, and that is an image we are not going to get out of our mind," she stated.
