Woman Critically Burned In Blaze

Garfield Park woman found on kitchen floor

A West Side woman was in "very critical" condition Tuesday morning after a late-night apartment fire.

Firefighters responding to the blaze at a Garfield Park building found the 55-year-old woman on her kitchen floor suffering from smoke inhalation and burns.

The woman was taken in very critical condition to Mount Sinai Hospital, Fire Media Affairs spokesman Joe Roccasalva said.

Firefighters arrived just before 10:20 p.m. to find a working fire on the first floor of a 3 ½-story residence on West. Jackson Boulevard, Roccasalva said.

The fire was contained to the first floor, and no other people were injured in the blaze. It is believed the woman lived alone.

A Harrison District lieutenant said police responded to the fire, as well.
