What You're Doing Today (and Tonight): April 18

Auditions for dogs, a Loretta Lynn performance and televised UFC action

DOG DAYS: Got a pooch with star quality? Bring it to "The Dog Saving Network" auditions at Gorilla Tango Theatre in Wicker Park today. Dogs will be vying for the chance to star in a new stage production, debuting in August. The Dog Saving Network is a new organization dedicated to spreading the message about shelter dogs using new mediums. 9AM-1PM, free.

THE COAL MINER'S DAUGHTER: Country music legend Loretta Lynn and special guest Redd Volkaert will perform at the Old Town School of Folk Music for the "Blue Jean Gala," the venue's annual fundraiser. With A-list talent like that, it's easy to want to keep this place around. Beer, wine, a light supper and silent auction adds to the musical festivities. 5:30PM, $150.

FIGHT CLUB: Catch all of tonight's UFC action at Stretch Run Sporting Club and Grille in River North. The hangout's 240 TVs will be tuned to the match-ups: Anderson "The Spider" Silva vs. Thales Leites and Chuck "The Iceman" Liddell vs. Mauricio "Shogun" Rua. Fun food and drinks specials abound. 9PM, $5-$10 (for V.I.P. admission including private room access and a wings buffet).

SNUGGIE PUB CRAWL: You may not actually be NEEDING a blanket with sleeves on an April evening when it's in the mid-70s, but if you're sans-Snuggie, you'll be missing out. [Read More...]
