Sunday Spa Day

River West's Allyu Spa presents a power-packed schedule this weekend

Allyu Spa, an eco-chic sanctuary located on the banks of the Chicago River in the River West neighborhood, has always got a lot going on, from innovative workshops, classes and wellness programs to an array of pampering, nature-based services. But, today, June 7, Allyu will be an especially buzzworthy place, with no less than three special offerings taking place that day.

From 11AM-12PM, instructor Alison Preston will kick off the day with "Yoga for the Heart." This monthly class, which costs $16 to attend, incorporates our heartbeats into the practice, using the rhythm to bring awareness to the heart chakra and to guide mind, breath and body into alignment through therapeutic yoga poses. Reservations are recommended for this popular class.

Then, from 1-3PM, wellness coach Jessie Schoenfeldt will present "Weight No More: Ending the Weight Loss Struggle," an interactive conversation about body image, self-defeating approaches and finding a successful wellness program. The seminar costs $35 per person to attend.

And, finally, Preston will teach a "Family Yoga" class from 3:30-4:30PM, which offers family bonding in a playful, relaxed environment through breathing and stretching exercises. The class is open to ages 3 and up, and participants should wear loose, comfy clothing. Yoga mats will be provided. The instruction is $25 for one adult and one child; you can also attend each of the four Sunday sessions this month (June 7, 14, 21 and 28) for $90 per pair.

Whew. After all that, you might want to fit in a massage. Luckily, you're in the right place.
